PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Vice President Mike Pence made a campaign stop in New Hampshire on Wednesday, where he said a vaccine for COVID-19 is "just a matter of weeks away."
With less than two weeks until the end of the 2020 voting season, Pence held a rally at Port City Air in New Hampshire, where he praised President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
"We’re just a matter of weeks away from having the first safe and effective coronavirus vaccine and tens of millions of doses available for the American people," Pence said.
According to the Washington Post, several potential vaccines are currently in trials, with early data from pharmaceutical company Pfizer and biotechnology company Moderna expected in November. Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca have paused their trials amid investigations into possible safety issues.
The event in New Hampshire was Pence's second visit to a New England swing state this week. The vice president also made an appearance Monday at a "Make America Great Again" rally in Hermon, Maine.
In 2016, Donald Trump narrowly lost the New Hampshire presidential vote to Hillary Clinton. A recent poll by Saint Anselm College currently has Joe Biden leading Trump in New Hampshire by twelve points.
