Report: Boston Women Earn 77 Cents for Every Dollar a Man Makes

For every dollar a man makes in Boston, women earn only 77 cents, according to a report from the Boston Women’s Workforce Council.

The report was based on data submitted anonymously by 69 local companies and assessed the wages of 112,600 employees.

The average salaries, according to the data, were:

     Men: $103,155

     Women: $78,954

Salaries weren’t the only discrepancy. The data also suggested that men earned average bonuses of about 12 percent of their salary, while women’s bonuses were about 5.

"Women make up the majority of our city, but like every city and most companies in the nation, women - and especially women of color - are under-represented and underpaid in our workforce,” Mayor Marty Walsh said in a letter that accompanied the report.
