High school senior Ana Erickson was really excited when Joey Wakeen gave her a rose and asked her to prom. Then, she realized she wasn’t the only one he had asked out. She wasn’t mad, though. In fact, she was even more excited when the truth was revealed.
You see, Wakeen has Down syndrome and the four girls he asked out are student aides in their school’s special education program. He wanted to ask all four out because they had each contributed to making his school year very special.
So, he worked on a farm for months to save up enough money to cover all of the prom essentials: limo, dinner, flowers – he covered it all.
“I thought it was awesome,” said Erickson, who got her invitation first. “It was unexpected. It was so sweet… Getting the flower was like having the cherry on top of the cake.”
