Dozens of New England Hotels Affected By Data Breach

Dozens of New England hotels under InterContinental Hotels Group (which include Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Candlewood Suites, and Crowne Plaza) have reportedly been affected by a massive data breach from September 2016-December 2016

IHG says malware searched for data from the magnetic stripe of a payment card as it was being routed through the affected hotel server. The company says that data has cardholder name in addition to card number, expiration date, and internal verification code.

Guests who have stayed in these locations during that time period are encouraged to check their credit card statements for any irregular activity.

"Although there is no evidence of unauthorized access to payment card data after December 29, 2016, confirmation that the malware was eradicated did not occur until the properties were investigated in February and March 2017" Stated IHG
