“Spygate” may have been more than ten years ago, but the Philadelphia Eagles apparently weren’t taking any chances before Super Bowl LII.
In a recent interview, Philadelphia long snapper Rick Lovato said the team ran decoy plays during their pregame walkthroughs, in case any competitive spying were to occur. Lovato said a number of the plays reviewed in the session weren’t reserved for use in the big game.
The now-famous trick play that featured a Nick Foles touchdown reception was among the plays omitted from the walkthrough entirely. The team had reportedly not practiced that particular play during Super Bowl week.
