Schools Closed In 2 NH Towns Due To Threats

WEARE, New Hampshire (WBZ-AM) -- Public schools in two New Hampshire towns are closed Tuesday as investigators look into potential threats.

Authorities said the decision was made "out of an abundance of caution."

In Weare, the FBI got involved after a perceived threat was found scratched into a table in the John Stark Regional High School cafeteria.

Then, on Monday (Weare schools were in session for Presidents Day), three buses were delayed after Weare Police received a tip that led them to search the buses.

They found nothing, and students got back on the buses and went home.

FBI agents and Weare Police conducted interviews at the high school Monday. Weare Police also conducted walk-throughs of several schools in the district Monday afternoon.

"We understand how concerned you all are and we share those concerns as well," read a joint statement from the district and Weare Police. "Our students' safety is paramount to everything we do."

Police asked the school community to contact them if they hear anything about a school threat, even if it is just a rumor.

Meanwhile, Chris Corkery, Principal of John Stark Regional High School in Weare tells WBZ NewsRadio1030's Kendall Buhl urged the community not to believe everything they hear from the online grapevine and avoid speculation

"It's just absurd where people take stories and they go and they go and they go, and everybody piles on to it. It's just not helpful. Our mission is education and they are not using facts when the substantiating their comments --  they are speculating and it's not helpful at all," Corkery said. "It's not helping the education process." he said.
