WEYMOUTH (24/7 NewsSource/WBZ-AM) -- Funeral services are set for the Weymouth police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty on Sunday.
Calling hours for Sgt. Michael Chesna are Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Saint Mary's Church in Hanover. The funeral mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the church.
A mountain of support for Chesna's family continues to grow, with many stopping by the Weymouth Police Station to drop off money for a fund that's been set up there.
Chesna was a big New England Patriots fan, and Barstool Sports has raised more than a hundred thousand dollars for the family. The group Tunnel To Towers has committed to paying off the mortgage for the family's home. In addition, some Rockland kids raised $900 for the family with a lemonade stand.
At White's Bakery in Hingham, they're collecting donations for the Chesna family. Bakery employee Hannah Dickson told WBZ-TV she fondly remembers Chesna.
"Amazing guy," she said. "Every time he came in, he had a smile on his face."
A 20-year-old man is accused of killing Chesna with his own service revolver Sunday morning.
