Radiohead Responds to Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction

On Thursday (December 13), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2019 inductees, and Radiohead received the prestigious honor, along with Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, The Cure, Roxy Music and The ZombiesAfter the announcement was made, the band shared a statement about its inclusion.

“The members of Radiohead have been surprised to learn of the band’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2019. The band thanks the Hall of Fame voting body and extends congratulations to this year’s fellow inductees,” the statement reads.

Though gracious, the members have not always had the fondest feelings when it comes to the Hall, as Consequence of Sound points out.

When asked about the band's potential induction during an interview last year, guitarist Jonny Greenwood responded frankly: “I don’t care.” Guitarist Ed O’Brien could also care less, saying, “I don’t want to be rude about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because for a lot of people it means something, but culturally I don’t understand it. I think it might be a quintessential American thing,” he said, adding that he’d “rather be sitting at home in front of the fire or going to a gig” than attending the ceremony.

So will Radiohead show up to commemorate their enshrinement? We'll find out next spring during the induction ceremony.
