EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — Managers of a Massachusetts conservation area say someone has defaced trees and a sign with racist, misogynistic and anti-Semitic graffiti.

Police discovered the graffiti at the Edward J. Dwyer Conservation Area in Easthampton and alerted members of the Pascommuck Conservation Trust, the board of volunteers who manage the preserve.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that the trust will get the sign repainted and are looking into options to clean the trees.

Board member Marty Klein posted photos of the vandalism online, saying "the community needs to be aware that hate lives among us." Klein says it's likely the vandals live locally because out-of-towners aren't as likely to know about the conservation area.
