Five Massachusetts communities are among the top 25 safest in the United States, according to a new study.
Franklin (#3), Shrewsbury (#6), Milton (#11), Westford (#15) and Lexington (#16) all made the safest cities list. Ridgefield, Connecticut (#2) was the only other New England community to make the top 25.
On the opposite end of the list, no Massachusetts communities were among the 25 most dangerous.
Startup LawnStarter used FBI crime statistics to determine the rankings in their “Safest and Most Dangerous Cities in the US.” The FBI collects crime statistics from city and state police departments on nine crimes, including arson, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape and robbery.
LawnStarter cites that, according to the Bureau of Justice, crime in the U.S. has declined since the 90s and is now approximately the same as it was in the 60s.
