How Naya Rivera's Son Is Coping One Month After His Mother's Drowning

It's been exactly one month since Naya Rivera's body was discovered after a five-day search after her boating disappearance in Lake Piru, California.

Her 4-year-old son, Josey, was discovered in the pontoon hours after their scheduled return time and it appears as if the little one is coping with the traumatic incident as best as he can. On Wednesday (August 12), Entertainment Tonight reported that it's been "an unbelievably difficult time for [Rivera's] family and loved ones," but Josey is "doing better every day."

His father, Ryan Dorsey, has also adjusted to becoming entirely hands-on and it appears Rivera's sister, Nickayla, is helping out by spending quality time with her nephew. "Ryanā€™s whole world is Josey right now,ā€ the source said, adding that the pre-schooler understands that his mother is no longer with him. "Ryan is still grieving and is very much struggling with the loss of Naya, but he stays strong and keeps going for the sake of his son.ā€

According to the source, the father-son duo is having conversations about the late actress on the daily, so that Josey is able to take away some good memories of his superstar mother. "They talk openly about her and answer all of Joseyā€™s questions," the website reported.

As you know, Rivera took the 4-year-old out to the lake, where the two rented a pontoon. The child told authorities that he and his mom went for a swim, but things went awry when she boosted him onto the deck from behind. Once he looked back, he saw her disappear under the surface of the water. Hours later, he was found asleep on the craft and wrapped up in a towel with his life jacket on. Her death certificate was obtained by The Daily Mail and revealed that the star drowned "in minutes." It also revealed that the star was laid to rest on July 24 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her autopsy previously unveiled no underlying ailments, and no drugs or alcohol in her system. She was 33.
