Lewis Capaldi's 'Last Christmas' Cover In A Santa Suit Is A Must-See

No one knows how to celebrate the holidays like Lewis Capaldi, and the singer/songwriter brought all the holiday cheer to his performance during the 2020 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Presented by Capital One. Because, as he put it, "It's been a tough year, but we've reached the end now, and it's Christmas time, and it's a time to come together."

Dressed head-to-toe in a Santa suit (his band members were also dressed as elves), live from "Santa's Grotto," Capaldi kicked off his iHeartRadio Jingle Ball set with a stripped back, piano-driven cover of Wham! Christmas classic, "Last Christmas." And his explanation of why he chose to cover this song will instantly make your heart grow three sizes:

"I chose this song, because I like nothing more on Christmas Eve, [than] to take off all my clothes, and get right up next to the fire, and just drink a nice, big, hot cocoa, and put this song on and just have a little bit of fun with it; maybe, 'Uh-oh, what's that? A marshmallow that was in it has fell onto my nipple. Ooh, that's a bit sore, but is it quite nice? Is it something I quite enjoy? Who knows.'"

Lewis followed up his "Last Christmas" performance by singing two of his biggest hits, "Someone You Loved" and "Before You Go," the latter of which it actually snowed for. A true Christmas miracle.

Aside from his amazing performance, Lewis also opened up about some of his "fond" Christmas memories while growing up in Scotland, which involved snowballs, fast cars, and some not-so-nice (definitely on Santa's naughty list) neighborhood kids. He recalled:

"What we used to do was, we used to go out in the street, and we used to say, 'Oh, hello, it's Christmas, happy holidays.' And then we used to get snowballs, and we used to throw them at cars as they drove past speeding. It was quite dangerous, and there were some injuries along the way. And also, I would be chased down by the tougher kids in the neighborhood. I'd be shoved into snow, and they'd say, 'Ha ha, ha ha, you little fat loser. Have a good Christmas, you freak.' So, it was a lovely time and I remember it fondly. I look back at it fondly."

In case you missed anything, or you just want to relive this year’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball presented by Capital One, The CW will broadcast the event as an exclusive TV special on Monday, December 14th at 8pm ET/PT.
