Now, more than ever, a good outdoor hangout is key, and what’s better than schooling friends and family in a semi-casual round of mini-golf? The only problem: it’s not always easy to find a decent course.
That’s where the people at Stacker come in. They’ve compiled a list of the best mini-golf courses in every state by analyzing ratings and review data from Tripadvisor.
According to their findings, the best mini-golf course in Massachusetts is… Pirate’s Cove! The course is rated a highly-respectable 4.5 out of 5, with 536 reviews on Tripadvisor. Here’s what Stacker had to say about the course in Yarmouth:
“Boston Magazine wrote that a visit to Cape Cod’s Pirate’s Cove mini-golf course might be “the next best thing” if a trip to Disneyworld isn’t in the works for your family this year. It may sound like high praise, but considering the incredible amount of detail put into the park’s theme, as well as its overall cleanliness and friendliness, it’s certainly not misplaced.”
Ever wonder how this tiny sport was invented? Here’s what Stacker found:
“Mini-golf was born in 1867 in St. Andrews, Scotland when The Ladies’ Putting Club of St. Andrews was founded. The members-only putting green, which was built for the enjoyment of the club, was constructed with the convention that it was “improper for a lady to take the club back past their shoulder.”
The rest, as they say, is a tiny piece of history.
According to Front Office Sports, it’s calculated that "more than 130 million people pick up a mini putter every year, making it a $1 billion industry in this country alone." That said, it’s a wonder they haven’t yet made it an Olympic sport.
Interestingly enough, Stacker says Washington, D.C. and Alaska have been omitted from the list because there are no mini-golf course reviews in either location. A real tragedy, honestly.
