BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — This week, NBA star Jaylen Brown drove from Boston to his hometown of Atlanta to take part in a peaceful protest in response to the killing of George Floyd.
The small forward livestreamed a video on his Instagram account on Saturday, announcing he had made the 15-hour road trip and that he was organizing a peaceful protest in Georgia.
"Being a celebrity, being an NBA player don't exclude me from no conversations at all," Brown said on Instagram. "First and foremost, I'm a black man and I'm a member of this community. We're raising awareness for some of the injustices we've been seeing. It's not ok."
The 23-year-old told protestors to "bring signs" and meet at the MLK Memorial at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. "Don't meet me there, beat me there," Brown said.
A large group of Atlantans joined Brown's protest, including rapper Lil Yachty, G-League player Justin Anderson, and Indiana Pacers guard Malcolm Brogdon.
After the protest, which Brown said was peaceful, he announced that three people in attendance had been "wrongfully arrested."
