FRANKLIN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Fans attending Boston Legacy FC home games during their inaugural season will hear a college freshman's voice over the loudspeakers.

Ava J. Membreno, a sports broadcasting major at Dean College, is the public address announcer for the Legacy when they play at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough and Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

"I remember being young, going to Revs games growing up, and that energy, that really led me to pursue what I do now in the stadium," Membreno told WBZ NewsRadio Thursday.

The Attleboro native said it was surreal to get the call to be part of Boston's newest professional women's soccer club.

"People have been waiting for women’s soccer to come back in Massachusetts, so this is such a big deal," said Membreno.

Membreno's duties include announcing pregame activities, starting lineups, in-game action, and special presentations. When she is not behind the mic, she is continuing her studies at Dean.

"Classes here at Dean College are super diverse, and I’m surrounded by industry professionals," Membreno said, "including John Rooke, who is the [public announcer] for the Patriots, which is huge to even be in the same conversation as him at this point."

WBZ's Jay Willett reports.
