BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Pet owners and dog walkers are avoiding a Charlestown park after fears a dog was poisoned.

The dog, named Gunner, died Sunday morning a few hours after visiting Eden Street Park. Gunner’s owner suspects the dog was poisoned, and said another dog died in a similar way two months ago.

"I have no proof to offer you but we believe he was deliberately poisoned at Eden St park," the owner wrote in a post shared by dog walking page WAGS Charlestown on Facebook. "He is not the only dog to die an identical death within hours of leaving the park."

The city said it has not put any poison or pesticides in the park, and its inspectors haven’t found anything suspicious.

Meanwhile, Gunner’s owners and WAGS are advising dog-walkers to avoid the park, as well as nearby Doherty Park and Medford Street Park.

"We’ve been flooded with messages of concern, and it’s been hard to even wrap our heads around the speculation that a pup was purposely poisoned right here in our beloved dog-friendly Charlestown," the group posted on their Facebook page Monday. "Our thoughts go out to this precious pups’ family and hope no one else ever endures this type of cruelty."

A man was arrested in 2012 on charges he was leaving out poisoned hot dogs on a nearby Medford Street lot.
