BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tuesday's derailment on the MBTA Red Line caused days of disruption and frustration for commuters. However, progress was made for service to Braintree on Sunday.

According to the MBTA, riders no longer are forced to change trains at the JFK/UMass station to reach Braintree.

“The derailment last week was just a joke,” one passenger said. “Not only that, but then it takes them four, five days to fix it. That’s unacceptable. But, the whole experience is just awful.”

Trains were still running at reduced speeds on Sunday. The Red Line derailment damaged the MBTA’s hardware and electronics that direct trains. Officials are still investigating, but said that the operator of the train was not at fault.

It was the second derailment to occur within a matter of days on the T.

Transit officials said that passengers should plan on adding an additional 20 minutes to their commute on Monday due to "ongoing signal work."
