BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — WBZ NewsRadio's legendary sports reporter Jonny Miller spoke with WBZ's Drew Moholland about this year's Red Sox team, his career, and his induction into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
"I'm really honored, and I think WBZ radio and TV has the most people in the Hall of Fame," Miller said. "I'm proud to join Gil Santos, Gary LaPierre, Larry Glick, Don Batting and the rest," Miller said. "I grew up listening to most of them, and I'm proud to say that I knew most of them."
Miller always gets the first post-game question at press conferences, and asks tough ones—but he says he wishes other reporters would jump in, too.
"Believe it or not, there's only about two or three of us who ask any questions," Miller said. "I'm prepared either pre-game or post-game with my questions, and I'm not shy about asking them. But there's really only about two or three people, now that Nick Cafardo passed away last year, that ask any questions! It's unbelievable, nobody asks questions."
Following a tough Red Sox season, Miller said the team has some tough decisions to make next year, and said there was "a bit of a hangover" after last year's World Series.
"The Red Sox are in a bit of a bind if their three starting pitchers end up not being healthy for next year," Miller said. "They want to reduce their payroll by about $40 million, and they simply won't be able to do it if they need to find some more starting pitchers. The total commitment to Price, Sale, and Eovaldi is about $75 million. That means they have a tough decision to make on Mookie and Martinez."
