New Bedford Shooting Victim Identified

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — State and local authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot in New Bedford on Tuesday evening.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn’s office, New Bedford Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of 139 Dartmouth Street at around 9:50 p.m.

When they arrived, officers found the victim, 41-year-old Ausarmaat Rahotep of New Bedford, outside the house with life-threatening wounds. He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

As NBC reports, Rahotep was arrested in 2017 in Florida, after he called 911 to say he was "headed to Donald Trump with bombs."

According to South Coast Today, a neighbor in the area of the shooting said he had heard a woman and some men arguing on the street on Tuesday night, shortly before he heard about six gunshots, which at the time he assumed were fireworks.

“Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further information can be released at this time,” DA Quinn's office said.
