BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The funeral for Pete Frates, who created the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for ALS research, is set for Friday morning—but there's a celebration of his life taking place Monday for those unable to attend.
Frates' funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ignatius Church, right next to Boston College's campus.
On Monday, St. John's Prep, which Frates graduated from in 2003, will hold a celebration of Frates' life from 4-8 p.m. in the Mahoney Wellness Center on their Danvers campus.
Frates died Monday after a long battle with ALS. The former BC baseball star, whose Ice Bucket Challenge helped raise hundreds of millions for ALS research, was 34.
Meanwhile, the eighth annual Plunge For Pete will go on as scheduled on Saturday, December 28, at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester. A post-plunge celebration and awards ceremony will be held at Bass Rocks Country Club.
