BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A source has told WBZ NewsRadio that The Red Hat, one of Boston's oldest bars and restaurants, will close. That will likely happen next weekend.

The Red Hat first opened in 1907 in Scollay Square. According to the establishment's website, it originally catered to "sailors on leave, dockworkers, and shipbuilders looking for an inexpensive place to eat."

"The Red Hat soon became a local favorite to businessmen on their lunch hour and ladies doing their shopping for the week," according to their website.

The restaurant has yet to announce the closure on their website or social media.
