TOPSFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Topsfield Fair is returning this fall, a year after being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Essex Agricultural Society, which runs the fair, made the announcement on Wednesday morning.

The fair first started in 1820 and has only been cancelled five times since the 19th century: for the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic, World War II in 1943-1945, and last year.

General Manager James O'Brien said the fair would be back on October 1-11, with no COVID-19 restrictions. "Knowing how much people have missed going to events I expect this year’s fair will be a banner year for attendance," he said.

Pre-fair admission tickets are $12 each and are available online, while tickets during the fair will be $15 each.
