BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Support for the unionization of rideshare drivers is growing in the Commonwealth.
According to a new statewide poll from the United for Justice ballot initiative committee, roughly two-thirds of likely voters in the 2024 election would support rideshare drivers' right to unionization. Many of the responders were not aware that Mass. does not currently give rideshare drivers the right to unionize.

Last week, rideshare drivers brought enough signatures to the State House to add their ballot question to the 2024 election. Chair of United for Justice Roxana Rivera said giving rideshare drivers the right to unionize is “common sense.”
It’s past time to grant drivers the basic union rights that workers across Massachusetts have enjoyed for generations, so we can finally end the unacceptable wages and working conditions that Uber and Lyft drivers have been subjected to at the hands of tech companies,” said Rivera.
Although the question is expected to be on the ballots for 2024, the Rideshare Driver Justice Bill is currently being considered by Mass. legislators. If enacted, rideshare drivers will be able to unionize before the election.
An earlier study from United for Justice found that rideshare drivers on average make less than minimum wage.
