ESPN is being called out for photoshopping Tiger Woods' mugshot for a story it ran on his arrest.
The original image taken of Woods has him against a green background. The photo presents Woods as disheveled, with droopy eyes and a shaggy head of hair. The shot aired by ESPN shows his face to be exactly as it was in the original, however, his hair appears much more kept; as though it had been sprayed and slicked to the side.
Many have speculated as to whether the network fixed Woods up purposefully, in a move that might win them his favor, while others suspect that the change was the result of poor cropping.
ESPN has issued a statement in which it explains the later to be the case.
“We have utilized a standard template for on-air headshots, which led to the background being dropped for consistency."
"We will revisit this process to improve it going forward.”
