Bill Maher has apologized for using the N-word on Friday's episode of his HBO show Real Time With Bill Maher.
"Friday nights are always my worst night of sleep because I’m up reflecting on the things I should or shouldn’t have said on my live show," he said in a statement. "Last night was a particularly long night as I regret the word I used in the banter of a live moment. The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry.”
The offending incident took place during Maher's interview with Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse.
Critics quickly took to social media to blast Maher for his use of the word and #FireBillMaher began trending. HBO has called Maher's behavior "completely inexcusable and tasteless," but stopped short of announcing any formal sanction against him.
