Pete Frates, creator of the Ice Bucket Challenge, passed away from ALS at the age of 32.
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was a major social media craze in 2014, to help raise money and awareness for Lou Gehrig’s disease. The campaign was wildly successful and attracted donations from the likes of Oprah, LeBron James, Bill Gates and many other celebrities.
Journalist Mike Barnicle confirmed Frates’ death in a tweet this morning:
“Pete Frates creator of Ice Bucket Challenge to raise millions for ALS cure is dead at 32. Courageous, huge inspiration, left memorable mark.”
