Here’s What Kanye West Would Need to Do By November to Be President

Kanye West nearly broke the internet over the weekend when he tweeted he’ll be running for president.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future,” the rapper tweeted on July 4. “I am running for president of the United States 🇺🇸! #2020VISION.”

While it’ll be an uphill battle for West to enter the election, it’s not impossible.

So what will he have to do?

As Sisanie shared on-air, he's already missed a number of deadlines to make it onto state ballots; he would have to run as an independent and will not be eligible to appear on the ballots in Indiana, Maine, North Carolina, New Mexico and Texas.

Although registration deadlines have yet to pass for the remaining states, the process of getting on individual ballots can be complicated.

As for his campaign, he has to file with the Federal Election Commission and although there is no hard deadline, it does not appear that the rapper has registered as a candidate, according to current public records.

And although West could run as a write-in candidate, there are still rules that govern whether those votes will actually count on Election Day.

While Kanye has yet to specify if he has taken any steps to get onto any ballots or register with the FEC, only time will tell!
