JP Saxe Details the Beyond Cute Way He Convinced Julia Michaels on a Date

JP Saxe's debut album Dangerous Levels of Introspection covers a range of feelings but it's his love story with Julia Michaels we're swooning over. The "A Little Bit Yours" singer joined Ryan Seacrest on-air on Friday, July 23, which also just so happened to be his second first-date anniversary with girlfriend Michaels.

Naturally, we needed all the details.

"I am obsessed with her as much as the day I met her, honestly, more," JP shared of his love. "Fun fact: Today is the two-year anniversary of our first date. Yesterday was the two year anniversary of us meeting which means yesterday was also the two year anniversary of us writing 'If The World Was Ending.'"

The duo first met collaborating on the track, but JP said he felt an instant connection.

"I took her to the park. It was probably the boldest I’ve ever been in my entire life," he recalled. "For whatever reason, upon meeting Julia, I didn’t let there be a scenario where I didn’t get to know her better. … After our session, I asked her what she was doing later that night and she said she was going out for drinks with friends and I said you should invite me.”

JP continued that she invited him, but it was only later that he found out she needed some encouragement from a friend.

"She invited me to the drinks. I found out later she didn’t do it, her friend stole her phone," he shared. "… And then later I said, 'When will I see you again?' And she still pushed back and I said — and, again, I don’t know what came over me I was in a trance — I said 'I totally understand if you just want to be friends and write, that's fine, but I have a lot of friends and a lot of songs and not a lot of people that make me feel the way you did tonight.'"
