Many Bruins fans were shocked and disappointed with the news that defensemen Torey Krug had decided to sign with the St. Louis Blues earlier this month, after spending eight years in Boston. The decision didn’t come easy, though, according to the 29-year-old.
Sunday, Krug posted an official goodbye statement to Instagram, saying that he was “never a fan of these types of posts, but it felt necessary as my only means to connect with you guys.”
“Thank you to the Bruins organization for the opportunity to grow as a player and a person,” Krug said. “Thank you to my teammates for the amazing memories and what will be lifelong bonds. Thank you to the fans and the community for embracing my family as one of your own.”
“I truly feel terrible that I couldn’t help bring another Stanley Cup to Boston but I leave with some amazing memories and having played with Hall of Famers on some truly special teams.”
He included a slideshow of special moments from his time in Boston with the post.
Krug was signed by the Bruins as an undrafted free agent in 2016, after playing at Michigan State. He played for Boston in the 2013 and 2019 Stanley Cup Finals – neither resulting in a B’s championship. In 2019, he set the team record for most points in a Stanley Cup Final game with four points (one goal, three assists).
