Tens of thousands of EpiPens distributed in the U.S. are being recalled because they don’t work.
Mylan announced the recall Friday as a result of two reports conducted outside the U.S. that found the device would not activate. The company said the malfunction is due to a defect in a supplier component.
“The recall is being expanded to include additional lots as a precautionary measure out of an abundance of caution,” a Mylan spokesperson said.
The defect could make it difficult for the EpiPen to work during an emergency.
Mylan said it will replace recalled devices free of charge.
