The National Hurricane Center’s latest update places Irma’s center over the lower Florida Keys, about 20 miles east of Key West.
A National Ocean Service Station measured sustained winds of 71 miles per hour, with gusts up to 90 miles per hour.
The storm is moving north-northwest at 8 miles per hour.
