Maine Boy Battling Cancer Receives 14k Christmas Cards in a Day

A 9-year-old boy from Maine who is battling terminal brain cancer has one final wish – to receive Christmas cards.

Monday, his wish was granted. Jacob Thompson received 14,000 Christmas cards at Main Medical Center, where he is receiving treatment.

Thompson has been battling neuroblastoma since February of 2014. The high-risk cancer can develop in nerve cells during early childhood. His cancer has since reached stage 4, spreading to his head and hip. Doctors believe treatment will be unsuccessful.

Thompson's mother said on the family's GoFundMe page that her son had been admitted for the last time to the hospital on October 11, given about a month to live. His only request was to receive Christmas cards from anyone who would like to to reach out to him and his family during this emotional time.
