ANDOVER (WBZ-AM) -- An MBTA Commuter Rail train hit a car after the driver mistakenly drove onto the tracks Tuesday night, Andover Police said.

A  53-year-old Andover woman misjudged a turn due to rain and poor lighting, and drove onto the tracks near Railroad and Essex Streets around 7 p.m.

Police said she had been trying to turn onto Dundee Park Drive, which runs parallel to the tracks, and instead drove about 60 feet on the tracks themselves.

That's when she noticed the gates went down at a nearby railroad crossing, saw the train speeding toward her, and got out of the vehicle.

The train struck her car and pused it another 30-40 feet, Andover Police said.

The woman was not cited, and nobody was injured in the collision.

Traffic was detoured briefly, and the tracks were cleared around 9 p.m.
