Quarantine Life Sends Deodorant Sales Plummeting, Ice Cream Soaring

Have you found yourself making more nightly trips to the freezer for a treat lately? Maybe, you’ve been putting off that visit to the store to stock up on deodorant? If either (or both) of these sound like you, you’re not alone, according to recently shared sales trends.

Consumer goods company Unilever said on Thursday that they’ve seen sales of personal care items, such as Dove soap and Axe deodorant, slump during the “new normal,” as consumers spend more time in quarantine and less time out in public.

Things haven't been bad for Unilever, though - sales of their ice cream products such as Breyer’s, Ben & Jerry’s and Magnum have been up.

"Consumers have eaten more soups, used more meal kits and accompanied their meals with mayonnaise and ice cream as dessert," Unilever CEO Alan Jope said.

According to Unilever, sales of consumer-packaged ice cream have increased by 15% in the first half of 2020. Sales were up an even-higher 26% between April and June - high enough to “significantly offset” the loss in sales in public places.

See? You’re not alone. You’re just changing with the times.
