REPORTS: Patriots Quarterback Cam Newton Tests Positive For COVID-19

According to multiple reports, New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be playing in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news Saturday morning via Twitter, saying “Patriots’ QB Cam Newton tested positive and is out for Sunday’s game vs. Kansas City, per @FieldYates and me.”

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport also reported the news on Twitter, saying “Patriots QB Cam Newton is being added to the COVID-19/reserve list, per me and @TomPelissero. He’s out for Sunday.”

The Patriots organization said they were notified late Friday of a player testing positive for COVID-19. They did not identify the player at that time. According to the team, that player immediately entered self-quarantine and additional players and staff who have been in close contact with said player received point of care tests – all were negative.

"We are in close consultation with the NFL, as well as our team of independent doctors and specialists, and will follow their guidance regarding our scheduled trip to Kansas City and the game against the Chiefs," New England said. "The health and safety of our team, as well as our opponent, are of highest priority."
