Boston Gyms, Movie Theaters, Museums To Reopen Feb. 1

Boston is moving forward with Phase 3, Step 1 of its coronavirus reopening plan, Mayor Marty Walsh announced Tuesday.

Starting Monday, fitness centers and health clubs, museums, arcades, movie theaters and organized tours will be able to reopen at 25% capacity.

The reopening had been paused and moved back to Phase 2, Step 2 in mid-December, in anticipation of a surge in COVID-19 cases during the holidays. That pause was set to expire Wednesday but has been extended to Monday instead.

Walsh encouraged Bostonians to get tested, as the city works to expand the number of COVID-19 testing sites.

“There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We will continue, as a city and as a state, to make it through this,” Walsh said. “We are about 11 months in now, and we need to continue to stay vigilant through this.”
