People in Massachusetts often get a bad rap for their driving skills but, according to a new study, they’re actually some of the best drivers in the country.
Friend, Levinson & Turner LTD, a Chicago area law firm, ranked which states have the best drivers, using metrics such as the number of DUI arrests, accident fatalities, uninsured drivers and people Googling search terms such as “how to get out of a ticket” and “car accident lawyer.”
According to their findings, Massachusetts drivers were second best in the country, with the lowest fatality rate overall (6 per 100,000) and average-to-low rates of DUI-related arrests per capita (163).
New York topped the list with the second-lowest fatality rate, “extremely low” rates of DUI-related arrests per capita (156), and a population of drivers that is mostly insured.
Pennsylvania (#3), Connecticut (tied for #4), Illinois (tied for #4), Virginia (tied for #4), North Carolina (#7), New Jersey (tied for #8), Ohio (tied for #8), Minnesota (tied for #8) and Utah (tied for #8) were among the best drivers in the rankings.
New Mexico, Arkansas and Alabama were the three states found to have the worst drivers. No New England states were among the ten worst.
