WATCH: TikTok Hack Determines Whether You’ll Look Good With Short Hair

There are few things worse than trying out a new hairstyle, only to realize that you hate it. One TikTokker, however, has gone viral with what she says is a way to tell if short hair will look good on you.

Beauty vlogger @bondenavant, who has roughly 1.3 million followers, says all it takes is two pencils and a ruler.

“Here’s a really easy way to know if short hair will look good on you,” she says, in a recent video. “It explains why my sister looks so much better with short hair.”

Here are the steps she outlines:

  1. Place one pencil underneath your chin.
  2. Place the second pencil at the base of your ear, so that it’s perpendicular to the first.
  3. Mark where the second pencil hits the first pencil.
  4. Measure the distance between the mark and the end of the pencil at the base of your ear.

“If the distance is greater than 2 1/4 inches, then longer hair looks good on you,” she says. “If it’s shorter than 2 1/4 inches, then short hair will look good on you.”

Later, in the comments, @bondenavant says that this test is all about the angle of your jaw, which prompted some humorous comments about finally finding a use for trigonometry.

There are a ton of comments on the post, but this was probably our favorite, courtesy of Nicole: “I know an easier way, cut your hair and if it looks bad just cry about it.” That’s certainly one way to do it.

At the time this article was published, the video has over 7 million views. Do you think there’s any truth to this?
