Family Of Jerry Remy Invites Red Sox Nation To Public Memorial

WALTHAM, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The family of Jerry Remy is inviting the public to honor the memory of the legendary Red Sox broadcaster and player at a memorial service. The service will take place on Thursday in Waltham, at Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial.

The public is invited to pay their respects between 2:00 and 8:00 PM. The family is requesting that instead of bringing flowers, anyone who wants to express their sympathies can donate money to one of two cancer research organizations: the Mass. General Cancer Center at 55 Fruit St, Boston, MA 02114, and the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund at 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215.

A private ceremony for Remy's family and friends will take happen on Friday.

Remy died on Saturday at the age of 68 after more than a decade of battling lung cancer. He stepped away from the broadcaster's booth after 33 years on the air to get treatment in August, and never returned.

He's survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
