WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The 4th annual Tulip Mania is underway in Wellesley.

Thousands of tulips are on display at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society's Garden at Elm Bank, as well as a pick-your-own tulip field.

Alison Dush is the MHS Director of Education and Guest Experience. "There are 75,000 bulbs, so you're going to find something you love," she said. "It's a beautiful scene."

As for the cool weather we've had, Dush said all the better to help preserve the tulips. "The cooler weather helps them to stay longer, blooms stay tighter, colors last, so actually the cool weather is a benefit for us."

Tulip Mania got underway on Thursday.

Its peak bloom is the weekend of April 25-26 and lasts for about five days, depending on the weather.

Tulips are expected to bloom through May 3, creating a succession of blooms and colors throughout the festival.

Tulip Mania's closing date will be based on flowering and availability.
