A Salem police captain has been suspended after a tweet was sent out on the department’s twitter account criticizing Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Gov. Charlie Baker.
Capt. Kate Stephens has been suspended with pay as the department continues to investigate.
The deleted tweet tagged Walsh saying “so you issued a permit for 10 of thousands of people to protest but I can’t go to a restaurant? You are ridiculous. You and Too Tall Deval are killing this state.”
In a statement, Salem Police Police Chief Marty Butler said these “types of comments are uncalled for at any time, but they are particularly egregious at this time when the public is questioning the police relationship with the community they serve.”
