Does Fully Charging Your Phone Ruin Your Battery Over Time?

OK, a rumor started on Social media and took off like wildfire…that if you charge your phone to 100%, you’re damaging the battery in the long term.

This was quite surprising…because nearly everyone I know…puts it on the charger when they go to bed and they start their day at 100%

Well…it’s TRUE. Keeping your phone plugged in once it hits 100%...it starts “trickle charging”. Meaning, when it drops to 99%, it trickle charges to keep it at 100. That’s what damages the battery over time.

This will cause your battery to deteriorate 10-15% faster over its lifetime.

So what can you do? You can go into Settings, and tell your phone to stop charging at 80 or 90%. And save 100% for a day when you know you’ll be out all day and using it a lot, like at a music festival.

Also, you don’t want to let it get below 20% very often because that affects the phone’s ability to hold a charge.

Between 20 and 80% is the sweet spot.
